Correspondents include Lessing Rosenwald, Maude Phelps Hutchins, George Beadle, and others. Records document activities and programs carried out by the League such as fund-raising benefits to support the University Settlement, Camp Brueckner-Farr, and the Hyde Park Neighborhood Club; lectures by guest speakers; publications; and special interest groups.

The University Settlement was established in 1894 under the auspices of the Christian Union of the University of Chicago with Mary McDowell as its first Director.
